I recently spent two weeks at Project Inlakech, just outside Tulum, Mexico.  I was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer in Jul 2018, and was told it had become metastatic in Nov 2020.  I am approaching the diagnosis from all aspects; alternative and conventional modalities, and not only from the physical, but holistically from an emotional, mental, and spiritual perspective as well. Hence, my travels and participation at Project Inlakech.  My very good friend of 33 years, Angela, came along to participate and support me.  

We participated in several ancestral healing ceremonies, Kambo and Ayahuasca, as well as taking part in a Temescal, and a 3-hour clay massage and bathhouse treatments. The Shaman/MD, Saul Smaili, his wife and nutritionist, Fernanda Scarioni, and their son, a classically trained violinist, Kassem were perfect hosts, guides and mentors and have become part of our extended family.  We felt completely safe, secure, and enveloped by their loving support.  

Transformation and change have occurred and continues to occur.  We had so many beautiful and wonderful experiences.  Sometimes the experiences were difficult, challenging, and/or intense.  However, it was all worth it, and I am so grateful for everything, as there were many lessons learned, wisdom gained, and much clarity achieved.  I know I will continue to manifest further healing benefits and receive more knowledge/information as linear time passes.  I'm looking forward to my next scan and lab results, anticipating positive results in eradicating or mitigating the dis-ease. The place itself was more than spectacular, it was magical.

It is a very special and sacred place. You feel it the moment you walk through the gates.  You can feel the energy and the love that emanates from the land, the animals, and the people.  It felt like home.  I even had a surrogate flock of birds to interact with and help care for while away from home and away from my own flock of parrots: 12 peacocks and peahens, multiple chickens and roosters, a couple of turkeys and a guinea fowl.  

I have immense gratitude for the owner/facilitator, Dror Ashuah, for setting everything up, who along with Dr. Smaili designed the treatment program.  We had multiple meetings over Zoom, before, during and after, to discuss the process and expectations, as well as to provide guidance on reintegration after returning home.  This could have been a once in a lifetime opportunity, but I know I'll go back.  I miss it already!

I was blessed with the opportunity to attend the Umbria, Italy yoga retreat Corinne Gervai  and Dror Ashuah in October 2023.  I went with high expectations, having practiced with Corinne for many years, but was truly amazed and renewed by this unique experience.  While rooted in yoga tradition, this week encompassed so much more than could be outlined in any brochure.  The physical practice, while an integral part of the week, was seamlessly woven into an all encompassing heart opening experience that invited each individual to challenge themselves while creating the safe and nurturing environment needed to support real growth. While the phrase "life-changing" has become so overused as to be cringe-worthy, I can find no better way to capture my experience with Corinne and Dror. I welcome future opportunities to be in their presence.

Umbria Retreat Magic was a life changing experience. The beautiful landscape and villa-just so peaceful, wonderful daily yoga practices, lifelong friendships, our own chiefs that delighted me with every meal, deep spiritual practice, 5 point dance expression, well planned and thought out outings, wonderful conversations, beautiful walks, laughter, nurtured, grace.  Every day was perfect. This is a brief capture of a week that will remain in my quality world. We were held by our teacher-the Goddess Corrine. And lead spiritually by Dror. Thank you both for taking us to Umbria.  I look forward to attending future retreats with you.

I recently attended the Umbria Retreat led by Corinne Gervai and Dror Ashuah. We began and ended our days with wonderful classes led by Corinne followed by meditation invitations led by Dror. The classes were superb and that will be no surprise to anyone who has taken classes led by Corinne at her studio; Euphoria Yoga Woodstock. That said this trip and retreat was so much more than a yoga retreat. It was a comprehensive experience and one of those things that is difficult to describe unless you were there. The bonds created in the group were so special and the time we had together, hiking in to olive groves and seeing the first oil of the season made, visiting the towns, eating and eating the most delicious food served by our chefs in our beautiful accommodations, and in wonderful local establishments, touring and doing a tasting in the local vineyard specializing in natural wines and bathing in thermal baths. Need I go on? But there was more! We danced, we engaged in healing rituals and all the while were held in the loving care of Corinne and Dror, our hosts and facilitators. I highly recommend this experience and any opportunity to attend a retreat with Corinne and Dror. You will be held and cared for, challenged and stretched in a joyful community!

Meeting yourself is not always pleasant. He goes through hard, painful and sometimes dark places. But after you clean up and go outside you have the opportunity to meet a clean and raw version of yourself and find out how beautiful she is. The meaning of the word Inlakech - you are I the other.

The group on this journey is like a hall of mirrors, the encounter with such a mirror is not always pleasant and not always beautiful, but these moments when you dare to really look yourself in the eyes and see your beauty are moments of grace. Inlakech is a magical place, it is an entity in itself. A powerful and charming jungle that allows healing processes to happen in it. Inlakech for me is a home. (I know, a bit dramatic, when you come back you will understand..)

In the jungle you will meet magical frogs and good grandmothers (and a little crazy...) miraculous creatures, a wise doctor, peacocks, roosters and with a little luck a jaguar. This journey is an opportunity to do something very significant for yourself, and if you think carefully, you will find that it is not just called your way right now.

I had been invited to take part in journeys of this nature many times over the years and my response was a very strong not for me! Somehow when the invitation came this time it felt different. The circumstances were different and my gut told me you have to go for it! 

That said I had some fear about it and I knew I had to move through it and show up. The very fact that it somehow was frightening, but also calling me, made me feel I have some things to work on. I knew it was time to face these things and  that it may be a deep process, but also transformational on many levels.

 It turned out to be exactly that! The depth of sharing in the group, the deep bonds that were formed with an outstanding group of people, the magic that emerged, were very powerful and beyond profound. Some moments were very challenging, others were totally ecstatic, but more than anything it felt like years of deep therapy and deep healing were happening on every level in a very short time. Astonishingly amazing!

This journey is not for everyone, you have to be ready to face things that you may have been holding onto for way too long and be ready to see and free yourself. The group was held in a very powerful way by the remarkable facilitators, which created a sense of trust and safety. The land it took place on felt very sacred and protected. Deep healing occurred and I personally feel I am not the same on many levels, in other words transformation happened that goes way beyond the time spent on the journey itself. Deeply grateful for this experience and the shifts and healing it opened up! I am looking forward to seeing how this will continue to manifest in my life and the lives of those I love and connect with and in the lives of the beautiful people that held space and supported each other on this extraordinary journey!

The journey I was on to Project Inlakech in Mexico, blew me open to the possibilities of another level to address and work through our traumas.
